Alliance for Trade Enforcement Commends Nomination of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative
WASHINGTON (December 10) — Today, Alliance for Trade Enforcement Senior Counsel Joshua Teitelbaum released the following statement regarding President-elect Biden’s nomination of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative:
“The Alliance for Trade Enforcement congratulates Katherine Tai on her nomination as the next U.S. Trade Representative and selection by President-elect Biden to serve as our nation’s top trade official.
“Ms. Tai is an experienced and gifted negotiator with the skills needed to tackle the tough challenges posed by our trading partners.
“AFTE looks forward to working with Ms. Tai to eliminate unfair trade practices that undermine U.S. businesses and workers, including everything from India’s inappropriate use of compulsory licensing and Korea’s pharmaceutical market access barriers to proliferating digital services taxes globally and South Africa’s concerning copyright proposals.
“To reverse the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the United States must address these barriers to trade — and quickly. Exports of goods and services account for more than 12 percent of the U.S. economy.
“With Katherine Tai at the helm, USTR is well-positioned to hold our nation’s trading partners to the commitments they’ve made — and thereby boost the U.S. economy and create jobs.”
About the Alliance for Trade Enforcement: The Alliance for Trade Enforcement is a coalition of trade associations and business groups that advocates for foreign governments to end unfair trade practices that harm U.S. innovative industries and supports U.S. policymakers in their efforts to hold our trading partners accountable.
